How ultrasonic cavitation for cellulite Works

Cavitation is a treatment that relies on high-frequency ultrasonic waves to address stubborn fat deposits and cellulite.

Researchers explain that the soundwaves from cavitation devices work by shrinking and breaking down adipocytes, which are the cells that hold fat. Once those cells are broken down, the fat basically leaks out and it can be carried away by the body’s own waste-disposal mechanisms. As a result, multiple studies show that cavitation can sculpt the body and reduce circumference. Note that it is NOT a weight loss treatment, and it’s important to pair it with great nutrition and consistent exercise.

Often, ultrasound cavitation for cellulite is paired with radiofrequency to offer a bit of a skin-tightening effect. Whereas liposuction and laser lipo can lead to loose skin and an increase in the visibility of cellulite, combining cavitation with radiofrequency reduces some of that risk.

That said, cavitation is still not a true cellulite treatment, even though it’s often marketed that way. Fundamentally, cellulite has a lot less to do with fat and a lot more to do with how bands of connective tissue are structured beneath the skin.

So the bottom line is that through fat dispersal, it might be possible to somewhat reduce the appearance of cellulite with cavitation, especially if your primary concern is stubborn fat. That said, if you’re only concerned about achieving a smoother look without reducing fat, it probably isn’t the best treatment.

Differences Between Ultrasonic Cavitation and Massage With Topical Creams

Unfortunately, most research on cellulite reduction is in its infancy, especially when it comes to non-invasive methods like cavitation and massage. That said, both methods can help reduce the look of cellulite in slightly different ways.

As we already discussed, ultrasonic cavitation reduces cellulite by breaking down fat cells, so it’s a decent choice if you want to actively reduce thigh, stomach, or buttock circumference.

Massage works very differently. A deep, targeted lymphatic drainage and fascia massage works by encouraging lymph flow for waste removal while also helping to break down the connective bands of tissue that cause fat to dimple rather than remain flat and smooth. Combining it with the right topical cellulite treatments can also offer some visible reduction of the underlying layers of adipose tissue.

That said, the two treatments are not mutually exclusive. You can easily enjoy the direct yet gentle effect of ultrasound cavitation while also relying on deep massage and cellulite-targeting treatments.

What to Expect From a ultrasonic cavitation for Cellulite Treatment

The best thing about cellulite cavitation treatments is that they’re fairly gentle and not too intensive. The procedure is usually painless, and the potential side effects, like sensitivity or bruising, are pretty mild not to mention uncommon.

The treatment itself is also quite pleasant. You’ll get to lie down comfortably as your provider applies a conductive gel to facilitate the transmission of ultrasound energy. Then, using a handheld device, your provider will begin to deliver controlled energy to the treatment area. They will move the device in a circular or sweeping motion over your skin, targeting the areas of unwanted fat and cellulite.

You may feel a warming sensation or mild vibrations during the treatment, but it should not be painful.

The treatment typically lasts for approximately 30-75 minutes, depending on the specific device and the size of the area you’re having treatment. After the treatment, your provider will wipe off the conductive gel. They may advise you to drink plenty of water to help flush out released fat cells.

You should start seeing a noticeable reduction in fat once you complete a series of treatments.

FAQs

How many ultrasound cavitation treatments are needed to see results for cellulite reduction?

The reality is that we don’t have any data on cavitation as an effective cellulite remedy. When targeting unwanted fat deposits, it usually takes a series of 6 to 12 treatments every week or so in order to see noticeable results.

Is there any recovery time needed after ultrasound cavitation treatments for cellulite reduction?

No! One of the benefits of cavitation is that it’s non-invasive, and you can pretty much return to your daily life immediately after treatment.

What can I do to maximize the results of ultrasound cavitation treatments for cellulite reduction?

The best way to maximize your cellulite reduction results is to pair cavitation with additional non-invasive treatments that’ll help soften the underlying fascia like deep gua sha massage, and topical treatments with vitamin A, caffeine, and glycolic acid that’ll help firm the appearance of your skin.
